Entry Requirements 1. Be at least 18 years of age.

2. Have an IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent (test results must be no more than 2 years old) with 5.5 in each band (PTE 50/ TOEFL 60).

3. Have Successfully completed a Year 12 (or equivalent)

Detailed Overview

This qualification is designed for students who want to develop practical skills and knowledge in cabinet making and joinery. The course provides hands-on training in the construction, installation, repair, and finishing of cabinets, furniture, timber products, and custom joinery items used in residential and commercial settings.

Students will learn how to safely use hand tools, power tools, machinery, and equipment commonly used in the cabinet making and furnishing industries. The course covers reading and interpreting plans, measuring and cutting materials, assembling cabinets and furniture, installing fittings and hardware, applying finishes, and completing projects to industry standards.

This qualification is suitable for students seeking employment in the cabinet making, furniture manufacturing, joinery, and interior fit-out industries. Students will gain practical experience in simulated workplace environments and develop skills required for real industry settings.

Graduates may find employment opportunities in cabinet manufacturing workshops, furniture production facilities, kitchen and bathroom renovation businesses, commercial fit-out companies, and custom joinery enterprises.

Entry Requirements

This course has the following entry requirements:

International students must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have an IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent (test results must be no more than 2 years old), with no individual band below 5.5 (PTE 50 / TOEFL iBT 60).
  • Have completed Year 12 or an equivalent qualification.

Candidates may also be required to complete:

  • A pre-enrolment Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment.
Course Duration

Full-time Study Duration: One (1) year and 4 months

Total Duration: 68 Weeks (52 tuition weeks + 16 weeks breaks/completion activities including holidays)

Classes are scheduled for 20 hours per week.

Training includes both practical workshop activities and theoretical classroom learning. Students will participate in simulated workplace tasks to develop industry skills and complete assessments.

Course Progress

Students are required to:

  • Attend scheduled classes for 20 hours per week.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress according to the college’s Course Progress Policy.

Students identified as being at risk of not meeting course requirements will receive additional academic support and may be placed on an intervention strategy.

Course Credit

Students may apply for:

  • Credit Transfer (CT), or
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Applications can be submitted during enrolment or before starting the relevant unit of competency.

For international students, approved course credit may reduce:

  • The course duration.
  • Tuition fees.

If course credit is approved after the Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) has been issued, students will receive a new CoE showing the updated course duration.
